| Greater Houston Restaurant Association Holds Gala Proceeds Support the Recovering Houston Restaurant Industry Houston - October 07, 2008 - The Greater Houston Restaurant Association will hold its annual Gourmet Gala November 8, 2008, inviting the Houston public to unite in support of the restaurant industry in the wake of Hurricane Ike. In the face of destruction, many restaurants took it upon themselves to feed the public, doing their part to help the local community by not only providing food, but also offering a breath of familiarity and comfort in a time when the city stood unrecognizable. Many restaurants returned to business as soon as possible, and the Houston community welcomed them with open arms, flocking to their doors until closing time. Unfortunately, many restaurants and restaurateurs, as well as others in the industry, suffered great losses as a result of the natural disaster and are still working hard to rebuild their establishments and their lives. The GHRA recognizes the need to help those restaurants who came to the aid of the Houston community as well as those in need of repair. The gala will provide an opportunity for the community to celebrate the obstacles it has overcome and to begin taking the necessary steps to move forward and bring back the restaurants that mean so much to the city. A portion of the proceeds raised at the gala will go toward restoring the restaurant industry and encouraging new growth. Additionally, in lieu of guest favors, the gala will make a donation to a fund benefiting the recovery of the "Wine Guy" James Koonce and his daughter Katharine Koonce who were severely burned in the tragic fire at the renowned Brennans restaurant on September 13. To help support the Houston restaurant industry, you may purchase tickets for $175.00 each, or inquire about sponsorship opportunities by contacting Holly Myers of the GHRA at 713.802.1200. Proud to be 1,200 members strong-and growing, the Greater Houston Restaurant Association (GHRA) serves as a strong foundation for restaurants to successfully establish and maintain their businesses. Our mission is to ensure the health of the GHRA and promote the growth of our industry through education, public awareness and governmental affairs.
