More than 150 Houstonites gathered on January 27 to hear an update on the state of the city at Houston Happenings, a panel discussion hosted by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. The group gathered at the new House of Blues in the recent downtown development, the Houston Pavilions.
Representatives from different areas of town sat on the first panel and discussed developments and 2009 expectations for Downtown/Midtown, the West Houston Corridor, Galleria/Uptown, Bay Area, Galveston and the Woodlands. A common theme through all was the ongoing recovery efforts from Hurricane Ike; the representatives from the Galveston and Bay Area CVBs were especially proud to report revitalized regions.
The special interest panel featured representatives from different industries including performing arts, museums, restaurants, attractions/shopping and sports. Each panelist touched on the effects of the current economic situation in addition to recent and upcoming events and openings, with most panelists agreeing the Houston is still showing relative immunity from the economic downturn. |
